The largest insurers in each of the New England states in 2025
With the announcement that the nation’s largest Property & Casualty insurer, State Farm, is entering the Massachusetts insurance marketplace, we thought it might be instructive to revisit the most recent market share report from the NAIC to see which insurers in Massachusetts have the largest market share based based upon the NAIC’s 2025 market share data.
Since many insurers and agents do business in the states surrounding Massachusetts, Agency Checklists is also including the most recent market share data for the other five New England states as well, followed by a comparison chart of insurers. For example, while State Farm has yet to enter Massachusetts, it already has a presence in other New England states and is currently the largest P&C insurer in Maine and the second largest in New Hampshire.
Massachusetts continues to be the largest insurance marketplace in New England, regionally, followed by Connecticut. While the smallest state in the region, Rhode Island has the third largest amount of total Direct Premiums Written. The following is a list of each of the Direct Premiums (000) written by each state as reported by the NAIC.
