While not open to the public, it will be broadcast on the Golf Channel
The Travelers Companies, Inc. today announced the start of the 2020 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. This year’s tournament features many of the PGA TOUR’s top players, including Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Webb Simpson, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson and defending champion Chez Reavie, among others.
Competition rounds will be held on June 25–28. Golf Channel will provide live coverage from 3–6 p.m. EDT Thursday and Friday, and Saturday and Sunday from 1–3 p.m. EDT. CBS will provide live coverage from 3–6 p.m. EDT Saturday and Sunday. Due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament will be a TV-only event, with no spectators permitted on the grounds at TPC River Highlands.
“We’re grateful to be hosting the Travelers Championship this week and pleased that our fans will have the opportunity to watch the tournament’s best player field yet, including 9 of the top 10 golfers in the world,” said Alan Schnitzer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Travelers. “This tournament, though, is about so much more than great golf. We’re proud of what it does for hundreds of worthy causes across the region. And because of the generosity of the tournament’s corporate sponsors, this year will be no different. We’ll continue the tradition of contributing to charities, including those dedicated to COVID-19 relief efforts and advancing racial equality. We would like to thank everyone for making this year’s tournament possible and for enabling all the good that it does for our communities.”
Since 2007, when Travelers became title sponsor, the event has generated nearly $20 million for more than 750 nonprofits throughout New England, including more than $2.1 million for 150 charities in 2019.
“Our fans may not be on the course alongside the players this year, but this tournament has a special way of creating excitement and bringing people together no matter where they are,” said Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President, and Chief Administrative Officer at Travelers. “We’re thrilled that the tournament will be one of the first live sporting events since March, and with so many of the top PGA TOUR players competing, we can’t wait to see who takes home the trophy on Sunday.”
