Passing of the Torch: Becoming Arbella’s Next CEO

April 15, 2025 by Paul Brady

An InsurOp-Ed from Paul Brady, Who Takes Over as Arbella’s New CEO June 1, 2025

Passing of the Torch: Becoming Arbella’s Next CEO
Paul Brady

Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have had mentors who have pushed me out of my comfort zone to take on new responsibilities and leadership roles. As I assume the position as Arbella’s next Chief Executive Officer, I am thankful that this moment is no different. Arbella’s Board of Directors and tenured executive team have supported me on my journey, and I have the passion and confidence to successfully dive in headfirst.

I would like to recognize the mentors who have guided me on my career. Janet Corcoran, Executive Vice President and COO at Arbella Insurance Group, and Joanna Young, former CIO of Liberty Mutual, who I spent many years working with, were both instrumental in shaping my career and my leadership style. They were not only exceptional leaders, but also thoughtful and motivating individuals who provided constant career advancement opportunities. Under their leadership, I strengthened my skills, worked hard, and brought out the best in my colleagues.

Our industry is based on relationships. We help people when they need us most, empathize with customers when they have a catastrophic claim, and always work to help get them back on their feet as quickly as possible. Day after day, I am proud to watch the entire Arbella team lead with empathy, and I am privileged to carry this culture forward as the next CEO.

Arbella’s people-first culture would not be as strong as it is today without the tireless work of my predecessor, John Donohue. Founding Arbella alongside the late Massachusetts Attorney General, Frank Bellotti, John has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors since the company’s creation in 1988, and as CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group for the last 24 years. He is a charismatic leader dedicated to serving the people of New England and is the driving force behind Arbella’s charitable foundation.

Together with John as Chairman of our Board, my executive team and myself, I will continue this legacy as Arbella evolves. I remain committed to providing the same quality service to our customers and agents that we have delivered for the past 37 years. We will nurture the collaborative culture that Frank and John instilled in the company so many years ago, and we will lead with empathy while we continue to provide much-needed philanthropic support.

As we enter Arbella’s next chapter, I am full of optimism and look forward to building upon our strong partnerships with our independent agents. The New England insurance community is stronger and more prosperous because of you. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
