Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers, also known as CAR, is soliciting proposals for an independent audit of its fiscal year 2013 financial statements. As President Dan Judson explained, “The objective of the audit will be to express an opinion concerning whether the financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position, results of operations, and cash flows of the company in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles.” The end results is to provide an objective and reasonable assurance that CAR has in place the proper controls and procedures for detecting errors and irregularities from within.
As many already know, CAR is “the industry-operated residual market and statistical agent for motor vehicle insurance in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. First organized in 1983, the unincorporated association of insurance companies or authority provides an insurance mechanism for both private passenger and commercial risks who are otherwise unable to obtain insurance coverage through the voluntary market.
