A.P. Michaud Insurance Acquires The Nancy Greenwood Insurance Agency

August 19, 2014 by Agency Checklists

Both buyer and seller are located on the same street in Methuen

The A.P. Michaud Insurance Agency has announced the acquisition of the Nancy Greenwood Insurance Agency.

The transaction, which was completed as of August 1, 2014, will see all of the Greenwood Agency’s clients transitioned over to the Michaud Insurance Agency’s Methuen office located a few doors down from the Greenwood Agency at 105 Haverhill Street in Methuen. The former Greenwood Agency office will remain open at is current location at 11 Haverhill Street until the end of August in order to service its remaining customers and to help finalize their transition over to Michaud Insurance.

We are very pleased to be purchasing such a reputable company as the Nancy Greenwood Insurance Agency and look forward to providing its clients with the same excellent customer service they have come to expect with Nancy. Our goal with this purchase was to make it as easy as possible of a transition for all her clients as we are run on the same core values as Nancy and located just a few blocks away,” says Trudy Lawler, President of A.P Michaud Insurance Agency, Inc.

In addition, Lawler notes that the sale will offer many additional benefits to Greenwood Agency clients such as the ability to purchase New Hampshire insurance products, a wider market for obtaining business insurance products, access to a bi-lingual staff member, and other amenities including more convenient hours, online processing and convenient, free parking.

Nancy Greenwood, owner of the eponymous agency, who will be retiring from the Massachusetts insurance industry after 33 years in business, said selling to another family-owned business made her decision to retire that much easier.

It is with pleasure that I retire from the insurance industry and sell my agency to A.P Michaud Insurance Agency, Inc. After much thought, I decided to retire and sell the agency to Michaud because I know that, for decades to come, they will continue to provide professional, yet personal service to my clients. I know I leave my business in good hands. After 33 years of providing personalized service, it was prudent to entrust my clients’ protection to another generation of insurance professionals” says Nancy “It has been an extreme pleasure working in the Merrimack Valley with my clients and their families.”

Finding a bright future in the family business

The A.P. Michaud Insurance Agency has been a family-owned independent agency in the Merrimack Valley since 1979. Founded by Armand P. Michaud, the agency specializes in both Personal and Commercial insurance products servicing its Massachusetts and New Hampshire clients from two office locations in Andover and Methuen.

Unlike the fate of many of the family-owned and operated insurance agencies in Massachusetts, Michaud Insurance continues to be run by the second and third generations of the the Michaud family. Deciding to follow in her father’s footsteps, Trudy (Michaud) Lawler joined her father’s agency eventually becoming its President, a position which she still holds today. In 2006, she was joined by her daughter, Tricia Lawler Sabulis, who is now the Agency’s VP of Sales and Marketing. With this latest acquisition, the mother-daughter duo are optimistic about their agency growth and presence not only in Methuen but throughout the entire Merrimack Valley.

Owen Gallagher and Kara Larzelere, of ForbesGallagher, represented the Michaud Insurance Agency in the purchase, while the Greenwood Agency was represented in its sale by Robert Granger of Ferriter, Scobbo & Rodolphe. Further details of the transaction were not disclosed.
