The 2014 Winners of the Mass. RMV’s Low Number Plate Lottery

This was the first year that the RMV welcomed the public to view the drawing of names

The RMV has published the winners of the 2014 Low Number Plate Lottery. This year over 7,000 applicants vied for one of the 160 low number plates available this year. Among those numbers offered was the number 351 which coincidentally represents the number of towns and cities which exist within the Commonwealth.

Agency Checklists decided to check out this year’s drawing, which was the first to be open to the public. Held in the new offices of the RMV’s Downtown Boston branch, the lottery provided drinks and cake to all those who decided to attend and included remarks from both the Registrar Celia Blue and Secretary of Transportation Richard A. Davey, who on a side note mentioned during his remarks that he, in fact, does not own a car.

Why people like to have a low number plate….

The Registry of Motor Vehicles is the oldest motor vehicle administrative agency in the United States and issued its first license plate in 1903. Many of the top ten single digit plates given out are still in the hands of the same families and passed on down through the generations.

inners have until December 31st to claim their plate or else it will be automatically forfeited to the list of the 25 alternate winners also chosen during the drawing.
