Mass.’s MAPFRE/Commerce Now Just MAPFRE

May 17, 2015 by AC Editor

The brand name change was announced on May 13th

MAPFRE/Commerce, the leading automobile and homeowner’s insurer in Massachusetts has announced that it has rebranded its name. As of May 13th, MAPFRE/Commerce will now be known simply as MAPFRE Insurance. While the company will now be known only as MAPFRE, the insurer says that the names of its underwriting companies, The Commerce Insurance Company and Citation Insurance Company, will not be changed at this time. As such, the company notes that both customers and agents will continue to see those two names on policy documentation.

“Our commitment to being there for our customers when they need us most is and always will be our top priority,” said Jaime Tamayo, President and CEO of MAPFRE North America. “We’re in the business of taking care of people. With that mindset, MAPFRE has built and maintained millions of long-term relationships across our home state of Massachusetts, the US and around the world.”

Based in Spain, MAPFRE, S.A. entered the U.S. marketplace with the acquisition of The Commerce Group in 2008. While it initially kept the Commerce name, over the last seven years, the company has been slowly introducing the MAPFRE name into the company has been slowly introduced to employees, customers and agents. With this announcement, however, the insurer is now focused on creating a more unified brand in Massachusetts as well as the other 18 states it serves.

The company notes that with this announcement, it is relying on the more than 800 independent insurance agents in Massachusetts who will play a key role in helping the company implement this brand name change. The insurer says the most noticeable changes will come in the form of the many icons the company supports that will now sport on the MAPFRE name. These include the MAPFRE Insurance Highway Assistance Program, Fenway Park’s Green Monster billboard and the MAPFRE Copter on WBZ’s traffic reports.
