The Insurance Library Association of Boston announced this week that John A. Myers has been selected as the 2015 Insurance Professional of the Year. Mr. Myers is the Chairman of the A.I.M. Mutual Insurance Companies of Massachusetts.

A recognized leader on a wide array of issues involving workers’ compensation insurance in Massachusetts, Mr. Myers first began his insurance career in 1970 as a sales representative for the American Mutual Insurance Companies in White Plains, New York.

As he advanced in the company, he was eventually promoted and transferred to American Mutual’s home office in Massachusetts. It was there that his growing responsibilities began to include Workers’ Compensation Trade Association products.

During the 1980’s Mr. Myers continued to advance within American Mutual first becoming Commercial Lines Sales Manager in the Boston District in 1982, followed by Northeast Region Sales Manager – Commercial Sales in 1986. In 1988, he was elected Vice President – Northeast Regional Manager for New England, New York and New Jersey.

The next year, he became President and Director of American Patriot Group, Inc. and American Policyholders Insurance Company. During that time he also simultaneously served as Operations Manager of the American Mutual Liability Insurance Company and American Mutual Insurance Company of Boston, In Liquidation.

In 1995, Mr. Myers joined the precursor of A.I.M. as the President & Chief Executive Officer of MEIE Attorney-in-Fact, Inc. (AAIF), a company which at that time provided day-to-day management of the Massachusetts Employers Insurance Exchange (MEIE). Upon the conversion of MEIE from a reciprocal insurance exchange into a mutual insurance company, AIF changed its name to Associated Insurance Management, Inc. with Mr. Myers becoming its President & CEO. A.I.M. Mutual is sponsored by Associated Industries of Massachusetts.

In 1996, Mr. Myers became President of Employers Associated Insurance Agency, Inc. and Associated Insurance Service Corp., wholly-owned subsidiaries of Associated Insurance Management, Inc.

Over the next 15 years, Mr. Myer’s tenure as the President & CEO of A.I.M. Mutual Insurance Companies saw the company grow to become an industry leader in the region, known for its contributions to workers compensation insurance legislation and workplace initiatives on behalf of employers and injured workers.

As part of a Board-approved succession plan implemented at the Company’s May 2011 Annual Meeting, Mr. Myers was elected Chairman of the Company. At the May 2012 Annual Meeting he was re-elected as Executive Chairman & CEO of the Companies.  Mr. Myers continues as Chairman following the 2015 Annual Meeting.

A graduate of Marquette University, Mr. Myers also has served on the Governing Committee of the Massachusetts Workers Compensation Rating and Inspection Bureau in 2004, going on to serve as its Chair in 2006. He also has been a member of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America’s Terrorism Risk Alternative Task Force since July 2007.

More about the Insurance Professional of the Year Award

Established in 2002 by the Richard Simches Fund, the Insurance Professional of the Year Award is presented each year to “…a person who demonstrates leadership and exemplifies those qualities that engender understanding of and respect for the insurance industry.”  The selection process is conducted by a cross-section of the insurance industry and as such carries with it that added significance. This year’s award will be presented on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel during the Association’s Annual Insurance Professional of the Year Award Ceremony.

More information on tickets and reservations can be found on the Insurance Library Association of Boston’s website.

Congratulations!
