Tarpey Insurance Acquires The Wilson Agency

January 12, 2016 by AC Editor

The Wilson Insurance Agency has been in operation in Melrose since 1924

The Tarpey Insurance Agency has announced the merger/acquisition of the Wilson Insurance Agency of Melrose. According to the terms of the agreement announcement in a press release on Wicked Local Wakefield and on the agency’s Facebook page, the Wilson Insurance Agency will be rebranded as a new branch of the Tarpey Insurance Group. The Wilson agency’s current president Keith Bowden will remain on at the new Tarpey Insurance Agency as will all of the support staff.

This agency was a great fit for our family business as we were all raised in Melrose and have always wanted to conduct business in our hometown,” said Elizabeth Liz Tarpey-Kent, president of Tarpey Insurance Group. “We are truly excited to be home in Melrose.”

Founded in 1924, the Wilson Insurance Agency has been owned and operated by CEO Clark N. Lindley since 1990. Mr. Lindley first joined the agency in 1972, becoming an agency owner in 1974, and President in 1982. In 1990, he acquired sole ownership of the company. In addition to the Wilson agency, Mr. Lindley also founded C&L Insurance Agency in 1987 and Agricultural Insurance Management Services in 2000.

“I have personally known the Tarpey family for over 20 years, and I firmly believe that their goals and values are similar to the ones that I share,” said Clark Lindley, CEO of Wilson Insurance in the company announcement. “After looking at the workings of other agencies it was determined that Tarpey Insurance would continue the tradition of excellent service, deep expertise and foster an environment that our clients and staff want to be a part of.”

“I am pleased to have Wilson Insurance Agency becoming part of the Tarpey Insurance organization. Their family roots in Melrose and reputation for professionalism and integrity within the insurance community make them a perfect fit for us,” said Bowden.“Their diversity of insurance carriers both commercial and personal insurance allows us to be truly independent agents which will greatly benefit our existing client base. I look forward to continuing to serve the Melrose Community and my existing clients.”

Founded in 1979 by James J. Tarpey, the Tarpey Insurance Agency continues to operate under the direction of Mr. Tarpey and his five children, Mike, Liz, Jim, Mark and Stephen. According to the company,

Elizabeth Tarpey-Kent oversees the agency’s financial operations. James B. Tarpey, vice president, manages the daily operations in Wakefield. Mark W. Tarpey works out of the Wakefield office and is a vice president and commercial lines sales manager. Stephen E. Tarpey is vice president and manages the Saugus branch.

In addition, the third generation of Tarpey’s have now started to join the family business, with Bill Tarpey, the oldest grandchild of James Tarpey, who, it was announced, will manage the new Melrose location.
