Both buyer and seller are independent agencies based in Lynn
Duffy Insurance, a second-generation owned and operated independent insurance agency based in Lynn has added another family-owned and operated independent agency to its growing family of insurance agencies. The Lynn-based agency has announced its acquisition of the fellow Lynn-based Barry & O’Connor Ins. Agency, Inc.
“We are excited to welcome Barry & O’Connor Ins. Agency, Inc. and its customers into the Duffy Family of Insurance Agencies,” said Duffy Insurance President Marc Duffy. “We have been friendly competitors and neighbors with Barry & O’Connor in Lynn for many years.”
As a result of the merger, the Barry and O’Connor office will transition into the Duffy Insurance location in Wyoma Square in Lynn. Michael Ryan of Insurance Agency Consulting Services, LLC represented the Barry & O’Connor Ins. Agency, Inc. in this transaction.
Barry and O’Connor Insurance Agency has been serving Lynn since the 1940’s
Founded in the mid–1940’s, Barry & O’Connor Ins. Agency, Inc. has been a full-service Personal Lines agency based in Wyoma Square in Lynn. The agency, long recognized as an Arbella Insurance Company’s Captain’s Table and Admiral’s Club awards agent, in recent years the independent insurance agency was run by Julie McGinn, who was in charge of agency operations.
“My father, Paul, was close friends with Jack Barry and knew Julie McGinn and the Agency quite well,” added Mr. Duffy. “The Agency has been in business since 1946 and has maintained a stellar reputation in our local community.”
The 10th agency acquisition for the Duffy Family of Insurance Agencies
Started in 1996 by the late Paul Duffy, the Duffy Insurance Agency has grown over the past two decades throughout the North Shore. Now led by President Marc Duffy, the agency has grown in part through the acquisition of other like-minded Massachusetts independent insurance agents, and now boasts five office locations North of Boston including Lynn, Gloucester, Peabody, Chelmsford, and Georgetown.
With the addition of the Barry and O’Connor Insurance Agency, Duffy Insurance has now successfully completed its 10th acquisition since its founding. Other agencies acquired by Duffy Insurance include the Jay Colangelo Insurance Agency of Chelmsford in 2016, and the N. Pingree Insurance Agency in 2020.
