3 Tips For Making The Most of This Year’s Big Event

October 17, 2022 by AC Editor

The Big Event is here! The Commonwealth’s, and the country’s for that matter, largest insurance agent trade show and meeting is about to begin. The annual event now held at the Westin Seaport District is slated to take place from October 20-23, 2022.

While most of you who attend have your routine down pat, Agency Checklists thought it might be worthwhile to revisit a short list we first put together in 2016 discussing three easy tips to incorporate into your routine to ensure you make this year’s event as successful as possible for you, your employees and your agency.

First: Scout out the Schedule

You have paid money to attend The Big Event, now make it work for you and your agency. Make sure to look over the schedule that the MAIA has painstakingly provided for you on its website. The best way to maximize your time and to get the most out of the event is to make sure you know when and where everything is happening.

For example, young agents should make sure to leave time in their schedule to attend the Opening Cocktail reception with the MAIA’s Agents Committee. The event will be held on Thursday from 4:45-6:15 PM and is sponsored by Plymouth Rock Assurance. And don’t forget, Plymouth Rock President Mary Boyd is also the 2022 Insurance Professional of the Year this year.

Second: Make Time to Visit the Trade Show

One of the best ways to learn about new opportunities or companies is to visit the Big Event trade show. While many resources can be found over the internet, don’t discount the power of the old school trade show. Over 100 exhibitors have taken the time and money to set up a stand at the Big Event, so make sure you save some time in your schedule to meet some of these vendors.

While we admit the Exhibitors Hall can be overwhelming, all of the companies and what they do are listed on-line under the Exhibitors Listing. Meet the founders of Boston Software, the rating agency Mass agents can’t do without, or learn more about Boston-based Openly,

The MAIA also has the floor plan of the trade show available on its website, so you can map out every step to maximize your time at the trade show.

For those figuring out when to visit the trade show in-between classes and seminars, here are the hours from the MAIA website:

Friday, October 21st: 9:00AM to 1:00PM and then 2:30PM to 4:00PM

Saturday, October 22nd: 10:00AM to 3:00 PM

Third: Tell yourself you are going to meet three new people

Phil Trem will speak at the Arbella Gourmet Luncheon this year

We are all guilty of it. Whenever we go to a social event, like a luncheon or trade show, we often gravitate to those we already know. While it is important to catch up with old friends and colleagues, it is also important to branch out and meet new people. With that said, make a promise to yourself that at this year’s Big Event you are going to meet three new people. Okay, you say, but how? Start with the following receptions:

Thursday, October 20th

  • Opening Cocktail Reception with MAIA’s Young Agents Committee

Friday, October 21st

  • Arbella Gourmet Luncheon with MarshBerry’s President of Financial Advisory, Phil Trem
  • Boston Software’s T.G.I.F. Reception

Saturday, October 22nd

  • Dance, Dance, Dance! Salsa, Bachata, Merengue!
  • Safety’s Block Party!

We hope everyone has a great time at this year’s Big Event.
