Mr. Nobile was the former president of the North End’s Nobile Insurance Agency
Peter R. Nobile, Jr., passed away on December 21st after a long, courageous battle against cancer. Peter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and he leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years Kathryn (Kathy) Nobile of West Newton; his sons Peter III (Concord, MA), Michael (Boston, MA), and Paul (New York, NY); daughters-in-law Jan Power and Cheryl Nobile; grandchildren Daniel, Stephen, Duncan, Cara, Drew, Sam, and Emily Nobile; brother Robert; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Peter was born in Dorchester, MA, to the late Adelina (Seminara) and Peter Nobile, Sr., and is predeceased by older brothers Vincent and Anthony. Peter was stationed in Germany with the United States Army during the Korean War, after which he graduated from Boston College with a degree in business administration. He went on to a successful career in the insurance industry, joining his late brother Anthony in the Nobile Insurance Agency, founded in 1920 in Boston’s North End by their father Peter, Sr. He later became President of the agency and partnered with his son Michael, who continues to run the business in its third generation. Peter was a familiar presence in the North End and will be sorely missed, especially by the Italian-American community.
Peter was a loving grandfather, never missing a baseball game, recital, or performance if he could help it, passing on family news to keep connections going, and he treasured events like birthdays and holidays as much as he did ordinary times with family and friends. Peter was enormously generous; he always enjoyed a party or a gathering; but most of all he deeply loved life and the people who filled that life.
Peter was a devoted Catholic, attending daily morning mass for many years and serving as a eucharistic minister. He was an active member of both Corpus Christi-St. Bernard Parish in Newton, and St. Leonard of Port Maurice Parish in Boston. Peter was also a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
