Officially Retired From Hub International New England in Early 2024
Swampscott – John Joseph Doherty, Jr., 85, of Swampscott, MA, passed peacefully from this world into the next on March 22, 2024 at Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, MA. John was the son of the late John Doherty and Martha Rogers Doherty, of Everett, Massachusetts. John was raised in Chelsea, MA and later Everett, MA where he attended St. Rose Grammar and Junior High School, and later Everett High School. John graduated from Massachusetts Military Academy and attended Northeastern University. John served in the Army National Guard for ten years, being honorably discharged in 1966.
While a student at Northeastern, John began his career in the insurance industry. John was a licensed insurance broker for over 50 years, earning the title of top salesman on numerous occasions, and officially retiring from Hub International New England in early 2024.
John married Nancy Neenan on May 6, 1967 and settled in Swampscott, MA, where they raised a family of three daughters and one son. John is survived by his wife, Nancy (Ann) Neenan Doherty, and his children, Mary Doherty of Swampscott, Maura Pilotte and her husband, Denis Pilotte, of Swampscott, and John J Doherty III and his wife, Amy Doherty, of Marblehead.
John is also survived by his brother, James Doherty, and his wife, Alice Doherty, of Marco Island, FL, as well as his sister, Elaine Imbracsio along with her husband, Charles Imbracsio of North Reading. His nine grandchildren; Brigid, Erin and Thomas Healey, Louis, Audrey and Joseph Pilotte, and Jack, Ryan and Sean Doherty, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his beloved daughter, Kelly Eileen Doherty, and his loving brother, Edward Doherty. John remained a lifelong Swampscott resident for 57 years who served over 40 years as a Swampscott Town Meeting member and captain of Precinct 2. As a longtime member of The Algonquin Club of Boston, John was involved with the club’s transition to the The ‘Quin House, as it is presently known. John was a dedicated parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott for 56 years, where he served as a lector.
John was an active community member, a proud Irish American, a true gentleman, and a loyal Friend. Those who knew him can testify to his warm and welcoming spirit, and his immense sense of humor.
