A Partner At Sullivan, Garrity, and Donnelly Where He Worked For Over 50 Years

HOLDEN – John “Jack” R. Curran, 83, passed away peacefully at UMass Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Boston, Jack was the son of John J. and Mary (Linn) Curran and had been a resident of Holden for the past 52 years.

Jack Curran

Jack attended Boston Latin School before graduating from St. John’s High School, Worcester, in 1960. He continued his education at the University of Miami, later earning a master’s degree in Business Administration from Suffolk University.

Jack began his career with Traveler’s Insurance Co., working in both the Worcester and New York offices. In 1970, he joined Sullivan, Garrity, and Donnelly Insurance Agency in Worcester as a partner, where he served for over 50 years. Jack was actively involved in numerous organizations, serving on the boards of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents, Bay State Savings Bank, Holden and Hahnemann Hospitals, Becker College, Pernet Family Health Services, and the Greendale YMCA.

A proud member of his community, Jack was a dedicated member of the Wachusett Area Rotary Club. He also enjoyed his affiliations with the Worcester Club and Worcester Country Club. Known for his quick wit and outgoing nature, Jack touched the lives of all who knew him.

Jack leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 57 years, Marie (Bocian) Curran; his daughters, Suzanne Stead and her husband David, and Allison Connors and her husband Timothy; his cherished grandchildren, Aidan Connors, Kate Connors, and Christina Stead; his sister, Cornelia Lund and her husband Myles of Palm Coast, FL; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Judith Reardon of Oklahoma and Margaret Early of Holden, and his infant daughter, Sarah.

Jack treasured his time with family and friends on Kennebunk Beach and his retreats to Key Biscayne, Florida.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jack’s family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 20, at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery in Holden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jack’s name to St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson, MA 01522, or to the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center at BIDMC, 330 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215.
