In Memoriam: Wayne Hutchins, 1927-2025

October 31, 2025 by AC Editor

A past president of the New Hampshire Association of Domestic Insurance Companies, Mr. Hutchins passed away earlier this year

Pembroke, NH – Wayne E. Hutchins, 97, passed away on May 29, 2025. He was born August 8, 1927 to Charles H. and Arlene (Fifield) Hutchins. He was raised in Bow and attended Concord High School where he lettered in football and was a top-notch hurdler and three times All State pole vaulter in track and field. He later became captain of the track team his junior year. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years prior to attending Tilton prep school, University of New Hampshire, then graduating from Burdett Business College in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a long-term member of the Plausawa Valley County Club (now Pembroke Pines) and later served as president for four years. He later became a member of the Loudon Country Club.

Wayne was past president of the New Hampshire Association of Domestic Insurance Companies and served on the board of directors for many years. He also served on the board for the Concord Group Insurance Companies for many years. He then worked for Concord General Mutual Insurance Company for forty-four years before retiring in 1992 as vice president.

An avid bird hunter, he enjoyed hunting grouse and woodcock in N.H. and southern Maine along with trips to hunt quail in South Carolina and Georgia with his beloved English pointer, Pete. He took great pride in his ownership of his Winchester model 21, 20 gauge shotgun custom made by Winchester Arms. A big admirer of Jack O’Connor, the longtime shooting editor of Outdoor Life magazine, they consistently corresponded on the topic of custom rifles.

In addition to his love of bird hunting, he coached several years with the Concord Youth Hockey Association and trained three of his four daughters in Appaloosa horse shows competing all over New England, including major shows in national competition (Nationals in New York and the Coliseum in Columbus, Ohio).

Wayne was predeceased by his wife of thirty four years, Marjorie Jean (Clay) Hutchins and son-in-law, James R. Beairsto.

He is survived by his four daughters; Tanya Nadeau of Pembroke, Teri Townsend and husband Richard of Pittsfield, Troye Beairsto of Northwood and Trinell Abate and husband John of Beverly, Massachusetts. Also, grandchildren Ryan Townsend and wife Karen, Crysti Townsend, Heather Jones, Katie Turner and husband Adam, Dominic Abate, Samuel Abate, and nine great grandchildren.
