Progressive Insurance® Introduces Pet Insurance for Cats and Dogs

March 9, 2026 by AC Editor

New offering expands insurer’s portfolio beyond long-standing Pets Best program

Progressive Insurance® has introduced a new pet insurance product underwritten directly by the company and its affiliated underwriting companies, marking an expansion of its existing pet insurance offerings.

The new program will be administered by pet insurance program provider Companion Protect and is designed to help pet owners manage the cost of veterinary care through customizable insurance coverage. Drew Purcell, Progressive’s pet insurance business leader, said the company sees increasing consumer interest in pet coverage.

“At Progressive, we share the love and enthusiasm people have for their pets, and we’re excited to continue to deliver on our commitment to helping people protect what matters most to them with this new offering,” Purcell said. “There’s a growing demand for pet insurance, and this new product reflects our dedication to meeting that need and building an enduring brand by expanding our portfolio into new markets with competitive prices and high-quality service.”

The new product will be offered alongside its long-standing pet insurance program administered by Pets Best. That program will continue to provide servicing and claims support for new and existing Pets Best policyholders.

Coverage structure and pricing

According to the company, Progressive Pet Insurance policies average about $47 per month, although premiums and eligibility vary depending on factors such as a pet’s age, breed, and other characteristics.

Coverage options include:

  • Accident and Illness plans, covering items such as emergency care, surgical procedures and medications.
  • An optional Wellness endorsement for routine and preventive services such as vaccinations, teeth cleaning and annual exams.

Policyholders can also customize their coverage by selecting different:

  • Deductible levels
  • Reimbursement percentages
  • Annual coverage limits

Progressive said discounts may be available for:

  • Multi-pet policyholders
  • Existing Progressive customers
  • Customers who add the Wellness endorsement to an Accident and Illness plan

Policy servicing and veterinary support

Customers will be able to service their policy and file claims online. The program will also provide access to licensed veterinary experts through Companion Protect’s CARE team, available online or by phone.

Expanding Progressive’s pet insurance business

Progressive has offered pet insurance for more than 15 years through its partnership with Pets Best. The company also notes it was the first auto insurer to include Pet Injury coverage on personal auto policies with collision coverage.

The new Progressive-underwritten product is currently available in 43 states and Washington, D.C., with plans for nationwide availability in 2026.
