MountainOne Insurance Becomes 15th Massachusetts Agency With MAIA Five Star Designation

October 6, 2026 by AC Editor

Western Massachusetts agency becomes one of fewer than 20 independent agencies statewide holding the designation

MountainOne Insurance Agency, Inc. has earned the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents’ Five Star Agency Designation following a multi-day review of the agency’s operations, management, customer service, and future planning. MountainOne Insurance now joins some of the state’s most effective and innovative agencies that have earned the Five Star Designation, the MAIA says, noting that fewer than 20 of the more than 1,500 insurance agencies in Massachusetts currently hold the designation.

Jonathan Denmark, Executive Vice President of MountainOne Bank and President and Chief Operating Officer of MountainOne Insurance, said the designation reflects the agency’s service, operational discipline, and community involvement.

“The presentation of findings highlighted many of our strengths, especially our exceptional employee volunteerism and community engagement. In fact, the reviewers called our commitment to community engagement one of the strongest they’ve ever seen,” said Jonathan Denmark, Executive Vice President of MountainOne Bank and President and Chief Operating Officer of MountainOne Insurance. “In earning this designation, our team demonstrated what makes MountainOne Insurance exceptional: a deep commitment to service, strong operational discipline, and a culture that consistently rises to meet the needs of our customers and communities. This is an outstanding achievement, and I could not be more proud of our team.”

MountainOne: Growth While Maintaining Strong Agency Culture Across Western Massachusetts

MountainOne is a wholly owned subsidiary of MountainOne Bank, providing personal and commercial property and casualty insurance, surety bonding, employee benefits, life insurance, and Medicare coverage to customers mainly in Western Massachusetts. The company has grown significantly in recent years, expanding its presence across the Commonwealth primarily through several strategic acquisitions. As a result, it has added thousands of new customers and increased its staff to over 75 employees.

The agency currently operates offices throughout the Berkshires and Pioneer Valley with locations in the Berkshires (Great Barrington, North Adams, Pittsfield, Stockbridge, Williamstown) and the Pioneer Valley (Longmeadow, West Springfield, Wilbraham, Greenfield), Massachusetts.

While the review noted the company’s growth, its strong culture of collaboration, relationship-building, community engagement, and professional development stood out most during the MAIA review process.

“Of all MountainOne’s Core Commitments, a couple stand out to me. One is community engagement,” said Heather Kramer, COO and Vice President of MAIA. “The agency has a long history of playing a significant role in its communities. Employees are encouraged to volunteer at community events and suggest nonprofit organizations that would benefit from MountainOne’s support.

Another commitment that stands out is professional development. The agency’s dedication to its staff is noteworthy and a core element of the Five Star program. We saw many examples of employees being provided with the education, resources, and support they need to thrive in the industry, as well as employees being given opportunities to pursue roles within the agency that align with their interests and strengths. These examples, coupled with the many other strengths identified during our review, confirm that MountainOne Insurance has earned its Five Star Agency Designation.”

Five Areas Included in MAIA Review

The MAIA awards the Five Star Agency Designation to independent agencies that undergo a rigorous review based on key criteria related to the agency and its operations. It ultimately recognizes those independent insurance agencies that demonstrate superior performance across five areas: Customer Focus, Management/Leadership Excellence, Human Resources, Product & Process, and Future Success Initiatives.

The designation is earned through a rigorous, multi-day on-site review by MAIA consultants, including staff interviews and a detailed assessment of the agency’s operations, strengths, and opportunities for continued improvement.

Agencies earning the designation must undergo the review process again every three years to demonstrate continued compliance with the Five Star standards.

Denmark: Review Reinforces Agency’s Focus

“We are incredibly proud to earn the Five Star Agency Designation. When you choose an insurance agency, you’re trusting that team to understand your needs, help you make informed decisions about your coverage, and be there when you need them most. Going through such a rigorous, independent review and earning this recognition reinforces the knowledge, service, and care our team brings to our customers every day. I could not be prouder of our team for earning this distinction.”
