Insurtech Connect is underway in Las Vegas…
New pre-ITC 2019 day for agents and brokers
As many already know, over 7,000 attendees are out at the Insurtech Connect Conference this week in Las Vegas. In one of the more interesting developments, this year’s event featured a first: a pre-event event day for agents and brokers. Dubbed “Agency Connect” the one-day pre-conference was devised to “singularly focus on helping agencies and brokers thrive in the new digital first, tech-enabled reality.”
Two founders of Boston-based insurtech start-ups participated in the event: Tower IQ’s CEO & Co-Founder Adam Demos and Veruna’s Jon Lincoln.
Ohio-based Bold Penguin also was in attendance and slated to make a big splash at the pre-conference event. After announcing that it had raised an additional $32 Million in Series B funding, bringing its total capital raised to over $50 million, the company also planned to debut the opening up of its proprietary Agent Terminal during the Agency Connect event. Previously, the Agent Terminal was only available to Top 100 brokers.
Our belief in the trusted advisor, the insurance agent, is one of the cornerstones of Bold Penguin,” said Marc DeLeonibus, co-founder and director of the Agent Terminal. “We are thrilled to be able to empower independent agents with the help from major carriers such as Nationwide Insurance in order to give technology that makes the process of quoting and binding commercial insurance more efficiently, in some cases as much as 300% efficiency gain.”
FYI – Bold Penguin’s Boston Connection – Lou Geremia, who is based in the Greater Boston Area, is the company’s Chief Revenue Officer.
Insurtech Boston is just over a month away…
With ITC 2019 well under way in Las Vegas, it’s time to start thinking about the next insurtech conference to attend! As such, just a reminder that Boston will be holding its own insurtech event on October 29th. A much more intimate affair, and much closer to home, this year’s meet-up will be more focused on those insurtechs looking to work with, rather than supplant, the independent agency system.

Speaking of start-ups and founders, a new insurtech launches just for them…
Vouch Insurance is a new start-up labeling itself as “Built by founders for founders.” The company, which is an insurance company and not a broker, sells its products exclusively through its online platform vouch.us to start-ups and founders. The company, which has raised $24.5 million in funding, is now live in Utah and Illinois, with plans to be in another ten states by the end of the year and nationwide in 2020. The company’s policies are backed by Munich RE.
As seen time and again over the past few years, startups face a range of risks similar to large established companies, yet the current insurance market doesn’t understand our unique needs. This leads to policies that don’t cover what they need to, cost too much, and take too long to get,” said Sam Hodges, CEO and co-founder of Vouch. “Vouch is the kind of insurance company I wished existed when I founded my last company.”
