Mary Boyd To Receive The 2022 Insurance Professional of the Year Award

August 8, 2022 by AC Editor

Boston-based Plymouth Rock’s President & CEO

Mary Boyd

Throughout her 30-plus years involved in the insurance industry, Ms. Boyd has helped to transform the insurance industry with several significant innovations, including a predictive analytics model which was patented under her name, and a business development program that is considered the first generation of a hybrid-channel marketplace model for insurance agents. As the President and Chief Executive Officer of Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation, she currently has financial responsibility for the company’s nearly $900M Independent Agency Auto, Pilgrim services, and Umbrella liability business.

She first joined the Boston-based insurer back in 2018, from The Hartford, where she had held the position of Senior Vice President with responsibility for both their Agency and Direct channels personal insurance businesses.

Prior to joining Plymouth Rock, she held various President and division leadership roles. Approximately 15 years of her career focused on high-net-worth personal lines, beginning with her tenure at Chubb as an actuarial trainee, which then expanded to roles of increasing responsibility; culminating in her appointment as President of their Private Risk Services division.

Ms. Boyd received her bachelor’s degree in both Applied Mathematics and Economics from Rutgers University. As a coach of youth sports, ambitious professionals, and entrepreneurs alike, she loves developing talent, improving technique, and unleashing the power of strong teams; individually and together.

The Insurance Library notes that Ms. Boyd was chosen for this year’s award because of her dedication to the insurance industry and the community at large. As part of her commitment to the community, she has spent time coaching track and field and has taken lessons on leadership and unlocking a team’s potential into her professional career. In her role at Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation, she is the driving force behind the company’s multi-discipline digital evolution that connects product, customer, and partner digital experiences across the customer life cycle.

A return to an in-person event after a two-year hiatus

In addition to announcing this year’s award winner, the library also confirmed that it will be returning to an in-person event this year as it marks the 20th presentation of this award.

The award ceremony will take place October 28, 2022, beginning at 11:00AM at the InterContinental Boston, 510 Atlantic Ave. As in past years, the event will begin with a social hour and a silent auction featuring Boston sports tickets, restaurant gift certificates, and much more. The formal program will begin at noon.

More about the Insurance Professional of the Year Award

Established in 2002 by the Richard Simches Fund, the Insurance Professional of the Year Award is presented each year to “…a person who demonstrates leadership and exemplifies those qualities that engender an understanding of and respect for the insurance industry.”  The selection process is conducted by a cross-section of the insurance industry and as such carries with it that added significance.

More information on tickets and reservations can be found on the Insurance Library Association of Boston’s website.
