The annual award, now in its fifth year, honors an insurance professional who exemplifies exceptional customer or community service, as demonstrated by its namesake, Nancy Z. Bender. Bender, a pioneering insurance executive and former trustee and president of The Insurance Library, was named the Library’s 2019 Insurance Professional of the Year.

“This award was established in 2020 to honor annually an individual who demonstrates outstanding customer or community service as exemplified by Nancy Bender,” said Michael Pezza, Executive Director of The Insurance Library.

Malley began his career at Brewer & Lord, which is now part of HUB International, before joining Bender Hatch Insurance more than 30 years ago when it was still known as H.R. Hatch Insurance. He is currently serving his second term on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA).

In addition to his contributions to the insurance industry, Malley is known for his longstanding commitment to public service and community engagement. He is a founding member and past president of the Roslindale Business Group and has held several civic positions in the town of Stoughton. These include serving as a Town Meeting member, as well as on the Finance Committee, the Stoughton Media Access Corporation board, and the Council on Aging. He currently serves as a commissioner on the Stoughton Conservation Commission.

“The dedication and service John brings to his work, and his exemplary service to his community for many years make John an outstanding and worthy recipient of this award,” Pezza added.

The award will be presented to Malley at a private event later this summer.
