Executive Director Michael Pezza to Retire from The Insurance Library

November 2, 2026 by AC Contributor

Pezza To Retire After More Than Four Years As Executive Director

Boston, MA (November 2, 2026) – The Insurance Library has announced that Executive Director Michael Pezza will retire at the end of December, after more than four years of dedicated leadership. Under Pezza’s guidance, the Library has continued to evolve to meet the needs of its members and other program and event participants, deepening its impact across the insurance, risk management, and legal communities and leaving the Library in a position of solid organizational and financial strength.

“Serving as Executive Director of this unique institution, which has been part of the insurance community for 139 years, has been such a rewarding experience,” said Pezza. “I’m proud of what our small but dedicated team here at the Library, our board of trustees, instructors, and our members and other supporters have accomplished together. While the time has come for me to retire, I have every confidence in the Library’s strong foundation and bright future.”

To facilitate a smooth leadership change, Pezza is actively working with the board’s Search Committee to help identify and evaluate candidates for the position, and he has pledged to do whatever he can to ensure a seamless transition.

Library Cites Growth During Pezza’s Tenure

“On behalf of the board of trustees, I want to thank Michael for his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to our mission,” said Edward J. Donahue, Jr., Library President and Board Chair. “Among other things, under Michael’s leadership we have repeatedly set new records for our annual fund drive, substantially increased attendance at our IPYA gala, and quadrupled participation in our terrific summer intern program. Michael leaves the Library in an excellent position, and we are incredibly grateful that he is partnering with our Search Committee to help guide us through this next chapter.”

Pezza will remain in his current role through December 31 to manage daily operations and support the transition process.

Search Underway For Next Executive Director

The Library is actively searching for the right person to take over as Executive Director upon Pezza’s retirement. Donahue noted, “We’re looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, and strategic leader, preferably with management experience in the insurance, risk management, legal, or non-profit sectors. This role is ideal someone who would enjoy working in a small, dynamic organization where flexibility, attention to detail, and teamwork are required and valued.”

A job description detailing the Executive Director’s responsibilities and a candidate’s qualifications is posted on the Library’s website at bit.ly/hiring-exec. Those wishing to apply for the position should send a résumé, cover letter, and salary requirements to jobs@insurancelibrary.org.
