Mrs. Young and her husband were the former owners of The Eldredge & Lumpkin Insurance Agency in Chatham

Judith W. Young, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully at home August 22, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was a talented teacher, seamstress, solver of crossword puzzles, and she loved to travel with her husband.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Young, her two daughters Suzanne Young and Kathleen Morse and Kathleen’s companion Harold Johnson , and her grandchildren Kelsey and Jonathan Morse. She is also survived by her beloved extended family: nieces Diane Brozovsky, Sue Falk and Judi Brittan and their families, her cousin Barbara Tuttle, her Shumway family cousins, Bill, Marlene and Sheryl, with whom she lived for many years, her favorite cousin, Bill Howland and his family, and our close family friend of many years, Mary Leahy.
Judy was born in Ellenville, New York, the daughter of Fred and Edith Whitman, who predeceased her, as did her brother, Bruce Whitman. Judy graduated from the Warren, Mass. High School and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She followed her husband to Washington, D.C. while he was in the US Army, and she built their home in Chatham while he served a tour of duty in Vietnam. After military service, they returned to Chatham, where Judy taught in the Chatham School system until the couple bought Eldredge and Lumpkin Insurance Agency, where she served as Vice President and Treasurer.
For 26 years after retirement, Judy and Jim had the best of two worlds, spending winters in Venice, Florida, where they had many friends, and summers in Chatham. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.
