Philbin Insurance Group Acquires The Williams & Alley Insurance Agency

April 26, 2022 by AC Editor

The Williams Alley Agency in Melrose

The Philbin Insurance Group has announced another agency acquisition. The Lynnfield-based family-owned independent agency announced that it has added the Williams & Alley Insurance Agency to its growing family of insurance agencies. Founded in 1937, the Williams & Alley Insurance Agency was started by the father of the current president and owner, Ron Alley.

In commenting on the sale of the agency to Agency Checklists, Philbin Insurance Group’s Tara Philbin noted that the agencies had known each other for many years with Mr. Alley having been her golf partner at the Andover Companies Annual Scramble outings.

Going forward, Ms. Philbin said that her agency would be keeping the former Williams & Alley office located on Main Street in Melrose. In addition, the Group also will welcome long-time Williams & Alley employees, Cathy Sullivan and Deb Norris, who have been with the agency for 18 years and five years, respectively.

Growth through small, targeted acquisitions

The Philbin Insurance Group

A Five-Star Agency, the Philbin Insurance Group was founded in 1989 by Andrew T. Philbin. A former Allstate agent and Travelers claim adjuster, Mr. Philbin decided to become an independent agent and start his own agency in order to “…provide broader products and more competitive pricing to his clients.”

Over the past three decades the agency has grown both organically and through small, targeted acquisitions. With the addition of the Williams & Alley Agency, the Group will now have three office locations with clients spread across Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire. The agency continues to be family-run, with Mr. Philbin’s daughter, Tara Philbin overseeing the agency as the current CEO. Mr. Philbin’s son and Tara’s brother Andrew, concentrates on sales.

One of the hallmarks of The Philbin Insurance Group’s success has been its focus on growth through acquisitions strategy. Through small, targeted acquisitions, the company has been able to build both its brand and geographic footprint in the North of Boston area. Since 1991, the company has been acquiring independent agencies consistently, now with eleven acquisitions to its name, with its most recent acquisition, prior to this one, in 2021, when it purchased the Douglas Insurance Agency.

The following is a list of the Group’s prior agency acquisitions:
