Burgin Platner Acquires Walpole’s Millis Insurance Agency (Acting as Herb Lewis Insurance)

November 3, 2025 by AC Editor

Quincy-based agency also celebrating its centennial anniversary this year

Burgin Platner, an independent insurance agency proudly serving Massachusetts families and businesses since 1925, has announced its acquisition of Millis Insurance Agency, which operates as Herb Lewis Insurance. The Walpole-based agency is located on West Street in the town’s downtown business district.

“We’re honored to welcome Lou, Brian, Claire, and the Millis Insurance clients to the Burgin Platner family,” remarked Steve Cohen, Burgin Platner’s Agency President. “Lou has built an amazing agency over the past 25 years, and we are especially happy to be partnering with such a great family-run business. We look forward to continuing that legacy while providing access to expanded resources. Clients can expect the same personal service they’ve always received, with the added strength of a well-established Massachusetts-based independent agency behind them. Just as importantly, we’re excited to continue providing a great place to work for the Millis team as they join Burgin Platner.”

Millis Insurance owner Lou Consoles began his career as a marketing representative at Safety Insurance, where he developed deep industry knowledge and lasting relationships with independent agents. When one of those agents began considering retirement, Lou seized the opportunity to purchase the agency and begin a new chapter as an independent agent and business owner.

Lou officially acquired Millis Insurance in January 2000 and has led the agency for the past 25 years with a strong focus on personal relationships and customer-first service. Joining Lou in building the agency’s reputation are his son, Brian Consoles, and longtime employee Claire Germano, who has been with the agency since its inception and remains a cornerstone of its success. Together, they have created a trusted name in the Walpole and Millis communities.

“When I purchased Millis Insurance in 2000, my goal was to create an agency where every client felt cared for and protected,” said Lou Consoles in reflecting on his agency career. “After 25 years of serving our community, I’m proud to see Millis Insurance join Burgin Platner, an agency that shares our same values of trust, integrity, and exceptional service. This partnership ensures our clients will continue to receive the same personal service, now supported by the strength and resources of a 100-year-old Massachusetts-based agency.”

As part of the acquisition, the Millis Insurance team will continue serving clients from their Walpole office, now as part of Burgin Platner.
