
Latest results show insurer reached several historic milestones
2025 was a banner year for Vermont Mutual, with the company reaching several historic milestones according to the latest results announced at its annual meeting on April 15, 2026. Among the most impressive, the Montpelier-based mutual insurer posted a record $101 million in underwriting income and a 19.2% increase in surplus to a record high of $1 billion.
Board Chair, President and CEO of Vermont Mutual, Mark McDonnell, remarked “Results for 2025 stand out as one of the most exceptional years in our company’s history. One notable achievement was surpassing the $1 billion mark in policyholder surplus. McDonnell added “Additionally, our agency partners favored us with over $85 million in new business, the second highest annual production in our 197-year history. Along with solid retention, we were able to produce a 5.9% increase of total written premium, bringing it to a record high of $860 million.”
