The defendant was previously indicted in 2018 for elder abuse
Benjamin Johnson, of Salem, was indicted this month on two counts in connection with an insurance fraud scheme he perpetrated against the John Hancock Life Insurance Company. Mr. Johnson was indicted by a Statewide Grand Jury on two counts; Larceny over $250 by False Pretenses (1 Count) and Fraudulent Insurance Claim (1 Count).
According to the Office of the Attorney General, between March 2016 and January 2017, Mr. Johnson created and operated a shell home health care company called White Shores Home Health. Through White Shores Home Health, Mr. Johnson allegedly collected undeserved benefits from a long-care insurance policy. More specifically, he collected money from the John Hancock Life Insurance Company for treatment he billed the insurer under his father’s long-term care insurance policy and for which his father never received treatment.
As a result of Mr. Johnson’s actions, he received over $45,000 from John Hancock for acting as his father’s “health care aid”. In reality, the AG’s Office’s alleges not only he did not act as a home health aid, but also failed to provide any care to his father.
Mr. Johnson previously was indicted in 2018 on charges involving elder abuse of his father.
The present case involving Mr. Johnson is pending before the Essex Superior Court with the Essex District Attorney’s Office in charge of the prosecution of the case. He will be arraigned in Essex Superior Court later this year.
