Arbella Insurance Group Announces Retirement of Jim Hyatt, Executive Vice President, and Chief Underwriting Officer

November 19, 2025 by AC Editor

Allen Chaves appointed to the role of Vice President of Personal Lines

Arbella Insurance Group (Arbella) has announced that Jim Hyatt, Executive Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer, will retire on December 31, 2025, after over 15 years of dedicated service to the company. Allen Chaves replaces Hyatt as Vice President, Personal Lines and joined Arbella’s executive team effective September 18, 2025.

Hyatt joined Arbella in 2010, overseeing Arbella’s Personal and Commercial Lines of business including underwriting, product development, pricing, and reinsurance. He has been instrumental to the organization’s success, growing Personal Lines year over year and serving as an excellent strategic resource and mentor to many.

“I want to thank Jim for his exceptional contributions and the lasting impact he has made on our organization for more than a decade,” said Paul Brady, Chief Executive Officer of the Arbella Insurance Group. “Jim’s leadership, industry expertise, and his support of our independent agent partners have helped us grow tremendously. We wish Jim and his family the best in retirement.”

With more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, Chaves brings extensive industry knowledge and an informed perspective to his new role of Vice President, Personal Lines. Since joining Arbella in 2011, Chaves has worked across Arbella’s research, analytics, product management, pricing, and underwriting divisions for both Personal Lines and Commercial Lines. He also chairs the Automobile Insurance Bureau Governing Committee.

“It has been a privilege to serve Arbella and work alongside such a talented team over the past 15 years,” said Hyatt. “I’m confident Allen will build on our progress and provide strong leadership of Personal Lines with Paul and the executive team. Arbella’s commitment to its people, communities, and agents remains as strong as ever.”

This leadership change positions Arbella for the future as it continues to focus on serving our independent agents and policyholders across New England while planning for its next phase of growth. In 2025, the company celebrated two significant milestones: Arbella Insurance Group received its 17th consecutive recognition on the Boston Business Journal’s Best Places to Work list, and the Arbella Insurance Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary.
