CEO of MacDonald & Pangione , Dies At 90

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — The Massachusetts property and casualty insurance community notes the passing of Robert “Bob” H. Pangione, an independent agent and Merrimack Valley businessman, who died on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the age of 90 following a long illness. Throughout a career spanning several decades, Mr. Pangione was a fixture in the region’s independent agency system.
Born and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Mr. Pangione owned and operated local independent insurance agencies in the Merrimack Valley. He was best known as the longtime owner and operator of the MacDonald & Pangione Insurance Agency, Inc., located at 104 Main Street in North Andover.
At the time of his death, corporate records show Mr. Pangione still serving as the CEO and director of MacDonald & Pangione, and as a director of the R. C. Briggs Insurance Agency, Inc. Today, MacDonald & Pangione, R. C. Briggs, and the Barry J. Kittredge Insurance Agency operate together as part of the M&P Insurance Group, which his son, Michael S. Pangione, heads.
In addition to his work in the insurance industry, Mr. Pangione served as a Director at First Essex Savings Bank and was one of the institution’s largest shareholders. He lived by the motto “Ever to Excel,” which guided both his professional endeavors and his 67-year marriage to Vivian J. (Marchese) Pangione.
Mr. Pangione is survived by his wife, Vivian; his two sons, James C. Pangione and Michael S. Pangione; and five grandchildren.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, the funeral services were private.
