Tornado Victims Sue City of Springfield on the First Anniversary of The Disaster

June 7, 2012 by AC Editor

Owners and tenants of a Springfield condominium association filed suit on June 1, 2012

The Republican reported earlier this week that the owners and tenants of a Springfield condo association have file a lawsuit against the city. The complaint states that the city conducted a premature demolition of their building thereby denying them of their constitutional rights to due process and property. More importantly, the residents said the city’s actions prohibited them from attempting to salvage personal property and the buildings themselves.

The demolition of the three buildings located at 959-991 Main Street cost more than $500,000 dollars to demolish and which the city is attempting to recoup through trying to enforce a lien on the property equal to the demolition amounts.

There are approximately two dozen plaintiffs in the lawsuit and the named defendants include Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarnol  the city’s Building Commissioner and Deputy Director of Code Enforcement; and Charlie Ament Trucking.
