Part of the Cats Win, Community Wins Collaboration Between Vermont Mutual and the University of Vermont
BURLINGTON, Vermont (January 17, 2025)—Vermont Mutual Insurance Group® donated $20,000 to Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation as part of the Cats Win, Community Wins program, a multi-year, community-based, collaboration between Vermont Mutual Insurance Group and the University of Vermont. Since the program’s debut in 2017, Vermont Mutual has donated more than $114,000 to local non-profits through the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative. This brings the total number of donations to more than $5 million dollars since the establishment of the Vermont Mutual Charitable Giving Fund in 2014.
The Cats Win, Community Wins initiative was created by UVM Athletics and Vermont Mutual as a way to give back to local charitable organizations. As part of the yearly program, for every win by a Catamount athletic team, Vermont Mutual will donate $100 to a designated charity. The recipient for 2024 was Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation of Burlington, VT. Founded in 1991, the Foundation promotes the well-being of children and families in Vermont by raising funds for community-based prevention programs.
During 2024, UVM Teams totaled 140 wins, making way for a $14,000 donation. However, with the historic accomplishments from UVM’s Men’s Soccer team, Swim and Dive Team and Field Hockey team, Vermont Mutual made the decision to round up the total to $20,000. The check presentation was made at the January 16th UVM Men’s Basketball game against the Binghamton Bearcats held at UVM’s Patrick Gymnasium. On hand to present the check to Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation’s Executive Director, Amanda Ahmadi, were Vermont Mutual President and CEO, Mark McDonnell, and Executive Vice President & COO, Brody Gilbert.
President and CEO, Mark McDonnell, stated, “Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation helps to provide important services and support for Vermont families and Vermont Mutual is proud to support their efforts through the Cats Win, Community Wins program.” McDonnell added “We also want to congratulate all of the student athletes at UVM for their historic achievements that helped make this donation possible.”
Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation’s Executive Director, Amanda Ahmadi, remarked “We are so grateful for the Cats Win, Community Wins program and to Vermont Mutual and UVM Athletics for the support they have shown. This donation will make a lasting impact, and we are deeply thankful for their support.”
Also announced at the January 16th game was the Cats Win, Community Wins beneficiary for 2025: Lund, a statewide non-profit that strengthens Vermont families so that children can thrive through Adoption, Clinical Treatment and Parent Child Center services.
