CAR Calls Special Governing Committee Meeting For Elections & Appointments

July 14, 2015 by AC Editor

The special meeting has been called for July 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM

The Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers has convened a special mid-summer meeting in order to elect a new Vice-Chairman of the  CAR Governing Committee as well as the recommendation and possible election of a new CAR President.

Who will be the new CAR President?

While we have no knowledge of who the potential candidate for the next CAR President may be, the Personnel Committee of CAR has stated in the special meeting notice that it would be recommending one as such. Here is exactly what they say:

The Chair of the Personnel Committee will report on the meeting of July 23, 2015 and will recommend a candidate for appointment to the position of CAR President.

The Election of a new Vice Chairman

The selection of a new Vice Chairman of the CAR Governing Committee follows the announcement made at the June Governing Committee meeting that current Chairman David Cochrane would be stepping down. Mr. Cochrane, a Senior Vice President of Insurance Operations with MAPFRE, announced that he would be stepping down from his post due to his impending retirement.

According to CAR rules, upon notification of the departure of the Chairman of the Governing Committee, the following process occurs:

According to Rules 4.C.1. and 24.C.1. of CAR’s Rules of Operation, when the Chairman is unable to complete his term, the Vice- Chairman becomes Chairman, “at which time the Committee shall elect a new Vice-Chairman.” Accordingly, as the Chairman is now a producer, the Governing Committee will elect a new Vice- Chairman who is an insurer member of the Committee.

How to attend a CAR Governing Committee meeting

The CAR Governing Committee meeting is subject to the Open Meeting Law in Massachusetts, meaning that anyone may attend a meeting. Since current CAR headquarters, however, are located within a secure building, you must give advanced notice of your intent to attend in order to be cleared by security.

In order to do that, interested individuals should RSVP on the CAR website by completing a  Visitor Security Form located in the Contact Us/Visitor Information Section of the CAR website. Once completed, CAR will then provide lobby security with advance notice of your arrival for the meeting. For those attending a CAR meeting for the first time, the CAR offices are located at 225 Franklin Street.
