The 2025 Low Plate Lottery Has Begun!

June 23, 2025 by Owen Gallagher

A total of 283 license plates are available this year

The annual RMV Low Plate lottery is now live and accepting applications.

Why does Agency Checklists remind our readers about the annual low-plate lottery? We love this annual summer contest because it is such an easy and economical way to reach out to your insureds across the Commonwealth each year and to help them get a great prize.

Similar to last year, this year’s entrants will have two weeks less to submit nominations than in past years, with the deadline being 5 p.m. on August 15, 2025.

A few rules and requirements to remember

All applicants should be aware that while there is no fee to enter the contest, any or all winners are required to pay a special plate fee in addition to the standard registration fee for the plate. Applicants must also be Massachusetts residents with active, registered, and insured passenger vehicle. No companies or corporations can apply, nor can any MassDOT employees or family members.

It is also important to note that requests for specific plate numbers will not be honored. The RMV says it will notify all winners by mail, and they will have until Friday, December 31, 2025, to swap their plates.

Plates will only be registered to the winning applicant and remain the property of the RMV, even after registration. Unclaimed plates will be forfeited and awarded to one of the 25 alternate winners selected during the September drawing.

The following is a quick summary of the dates to keep track of:

  1. The official start date was Monday, June 13, 2025.
  2. Only online entries will be accepted this year. Paper submissions are no longer accepted.
  3. The deadline to enter the lottery is by 5:00 PM, Friday, August 15, 2025.

The plate numbers available this year

There is a total of 283 low-number license plates available for this year’s drawing. In what has become a summer tradition, Agency Checklists is providing a list of all of the available numbers for this year below:
