Carrier Introduces Conversational Entry Point for Premium Estimates
Workers’ Compensation insurer EMPLOYERS has become the first known insurance carrier to launch a quoting capability application in the ChatGPT App Directory.
“This positions EMPLOYERS at the forefront of AI-native insurance distribution,” said Katherine Antonello, President and Chief Executive Officer of Employers Holdings, Inc. “We are not waiting for the industry to define this channel. We are defining it.”
According to the insurer, the application enables business owners to obtain a premium estimate through a conversational interface rather than a traditional form-based quoting process. The experience is intended to reduce friction at the initial stage by allowing users to begin the process without navigating standard application forms or insurance terminology.
The announcement by Employer as the first insurance carrier to launch an app on Chat GPT follows similar announcements from non-carrier insurance companies such as Insurify and Simply Business who have also launched apps on Chat GPT>
Quoting Process Conducted Through Guided Interaction
Unlike other apps, however, through the EMPLOYERS application, users can:
- Describe their business, location, payroll, employee count, and years in operation through a guided exchange
- Receive a real-time premium estimate
- Transition to a full quoting experience if they elect to proceed
The company stated that placing quoting functionality within ChatGPT creates an additional entry point for businesses at an earlier stage in the insurance purchasing process.
Technology Architecture Enables Real-Time Rating
“Workers’ comp quoting has never lived inside a consumer AI assistant. The data requirements, state-specific eligibility rules, and underwriting complexity made it a non-starter,” said Kelley Kage, Chief Information Officer of EMPLOYERS. “What changed for us is Model Context Protocol (MCP). By implementing an MCP server that wraps our existing patented Digital Agency Service API, we exposed our real-time rating and classification engine to ChatGPT as a set of structured tool calls. No new underwriting logic, no shadow rating. ChatGPT orchestrates the conversation and our API does the work.”
Part of Broader AI and Product Expansion
The company said the ChatGPT application is part of a broader expansion of its technology and AI capabilities into new distribution channels. Earlier in the year, EMPLOYERS introduced its Excess Workers’ Compensation product, which it stated incorporates advanced analytics and AI-powered capabilities designed to provide enhanced insights and more proactive risk management.
