Agency Checklists, MA Insurance News, Mass. Insurance News, NBIC, Timothy Moura

Timothy Moura Named President of Narragansett Bay Insurance Company

Timothy Moura has been named President of Narragansett Bay Insurance Company (“NBIC”) and will be responsible for directing the operations of the company and leading its strategic initiatives to drive continued profitable growth.

NBIC is one of the largest coastal homeowners insurance carriers in the Northeast with approximately $330 million in total premiums, and is focused on providing valuable products and services to agents and customers in the markets it serves. Mr. Moura’s new role follows the recent announcement of the acquisition of NBIC by Heritage Insurance Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: HRTG) (“Heritage”). Together, the combined organization operates as a superregional property insurer with almost $1 billion in total premiums across twelve states.

Mr. Moura served as Senior Vice President of Marketing, Agency, and Client Services for NBIC since 2014. He was responsible for developing and overseeing the company’s strategic growth initiatives that have contributed to NBIC’s success and growing market share in the Northeast over the past four years. He has over 20 years of insurance industry experience, having served in senior management positions with Tower Group Companies, OneBeacon Insurance Group, and MetLife Auto & Home. Mr. Moura earned his MBA from Bryant University and his BA from Clark University.

“Tim has the energy, enthusiasm, and expertise to lead the organization going forward and I am confident that under his leadership, NBIC will continue to build on its past success,” stated Todd Hart, CEO of NBIC.

Bruce Lucas, Chairman and CEO of Heritage, added, “NBIC has established itself as a market leader in the Northeast and I am excited to have Tim serve as NBIC’s President. I look forward to working with him, his management team, and our agency partners to grow and expand NBIC’s business, while delivering value to our agents and policyholders.”

Liberty Mutual

Agency Checklists, Sheila Anderson, Liberty Mutual, MA Insurance News, Mass. Insurance NewsShelia Anderson Joins Liberty Mutual Insurance in Newly-Created Role of Chief Information Officer for Corporate Functions

Liberty Mutual Insurance has appointed Shelia Anderson to the newly created role of Corporate Functions Chief Information Officer, reporting to Liberty Mutual’s Executive Vice President and CIO James McGlennon.  Based in Boston, Anderson will focus on enabling customer success for the corporate functions department, B2B architecture, and modernizing and digitizing core systems and processes.

“To keep up with customer expectations and to stay relevant, every company – including Fortune 100 companies like us – must become faster, more agile and increasingly open to smart risk-taking, innovation and new ways of working,” said McGlennon.  “Whether those customers are internal or external, we need to develop products that keep pace with their changing expectations and enhance their user experience.  Shelia and her team will work with our internal corporate functions – legal, benefits, talent and enterprise services – to focus on system automation, their move to the cloud, and applications designed to streamline their work.”

In addition to working on products and applications for Liberty’s policyholders – such as the recently launched iBuyMotocycle, the digital buying experience for motorcycle insurance –McGlennon’s technology team also develops innovative internal products to help the company remain competitive.  One example of their work is the Cat-i application, which provides a faster, more accurate way to communicate catastrophe risk to senior management. Better information leads to better decisions concerning risk management, claims responses, and other areas of Liberty Mutual’s business, ultimately improving the customer experience.

“I was drawn to Liberty for its culture of innovation and James’s dedication to pushing the technology envelope,” said Anderson.  “I’m excited to join the organization and look forward to partnering with the team to use emerging technology and create solutions that help Liberty compete and succeed in the global marketplace.”

Anderson has held senior level technology roles with several Fortune 500 global technology organizations, including HP and Electronic Data Systems. She most recently served as vice president and CIO for Property and Casualty Insurance at USAA.  She received her BS in computer science from Louisiana Tech University and her MS in engineering management from Southern Methodist University.
