Cryan had been the Executive Director of the ILAB since 2013
Glen Cryan, the Executive Director of The Insurance Library Association has retired. Mr. Cryan, who had joined the ILAB in 2013 and led the 128 year-old institution for the past five years, officially stepped down on August 24, 2018.
In commenting on the announcement, Erin Cummings the President, Board of Trustees of the ILAB, and the Chief Information Officer at Norfolk & Dedham, wrote this with regards to Mr. Cryan’s retirement:
Please join me and the Board of Trustees in extending warm wishes for a happy retirement to our Executive Director, Glenn Cryan.
A testament to our mission, Glenn spent his entire career in the insurance industry, gaining experience and knowledge early on through our wonderful educational offerings.
Glenn spent the last 5 years as our Executive Director, shepherding the Library into the waters of online courses and webinars, while also working to maintain its great legacy.
While Glenn will be moving on to a new chapter as of August 24, his work on behalf of the Library and the industry will not soon be forgotten.
A fitting end to a long career in the insurance industry
In October of 2013, Agency Checklists had the opportunity to interview Mr. Cryan two months after becoming Executive Director. In that interview he gave us some insight into his career in the insurance industry…
I started back in 1978 with Liberty Mutual as a Claims Adjuster. Over the last 35 years, I have held various claim positions at companies like the Electric Mutual Insurance Company, where I received a lot of multi-state experience; the former Lumber Mutual Insurance Company; Commercial Union; and One Beacon at which I was a VP of claims.
In 2008, I made the shift over to the education side of insurance when I was contacted by a recruiter about a position at the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research in Austin, Texas. This organization provides insurance educational programs and designations such as Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). I eventually joined the organization as their Chief Operations Officer. I think working there the past 5 years as their COO helped to better prepare me for this position.
We know many of our readers will join us in wishing Mr. Cryan all the best as he starts a new chapter. To read our October 18, 2013 interview with Mr. Cryan, please refer to our article entitled, “Meet The Insurance Library Association of Boston’s New Executive Director Glenn Cryan.”
