An update on Agency Checklists’ proprietary list of agency acquisition activity in New England for Q1-2026
Mirroring national trends, Massachusetts insurance agency M&A activity declined in the first quarter of 2026, with Agency Checklists reporting on a total of five agency acquisitions in New England, and only three publicly announced deals in Massachusetts this past quarter.
While this number may not reflect the total number of acquisitions that actually closed during the first quarter of 2026, it nevertheless indicates a steep decline in M&A activity as compared with similar first-quarter results in 2024 and 2025.
The chart below gives a realistic snapshot as to the reduction in agency merger and acquisition activity so far this year in Massachusetts and New England:

The following table reflects agency merger and acquisition activity for Q1 2026. All in all, there were five transactions publicly announced in New England—four in January and one in February. Of those, three occurred in Massachusetts (all in January), with one each in Connecticut (January) and New Hampshire (February). The graph below reflects Agency Checklists proprietary data for 2023–2026. Please note the 2026 column reflects total New England activity for Q1-2026 only.
