New England Agency M&A Also Slows in First Half of 2026

Agency Checklists’ tracking of publicly announced agency transactions in Massachusetts and New England shows a similar slowdown during the first half of 2026 to that of the latest OPTIS Partners Quarterly Report. Eight transactions were announced from January through June, compared with 15 during the first half of 2025. Activity was concentrated early in the year, with four transactions announced in January, one in February and none in March or April. Deal announcements resumed in May with the acquisitions of Paradiso Insurance by Trucordia and Turner Liberty Insurance by Davis & owlet Insurance Group, followed in June by World Insurance Associates’ acquisition of Worcester-based Wolpert Insurance.

The 2026 transactions involved a mix of regional agency groups and larger acquirers. Among the other first-half deals were MountainOne Insurance’s acquisition of Amy R. Morey Insurance Agency, Cushman Insurance Group’s acquisition of New Bedford’s Bergeron Agency, Starkweather & Shepley’s addition of DiMatteo Insurance Brokers, Davis & owlet’s partnership with The Insurance Source, and Hanscom Federal Credit Union’s acquisition of Peoples Bank, which brought Fleetwood Insurance Group into the credit union. The eight announced transactions represent a decline of approximately 47% from the 15 transactions tracked by Agency Checklists during the comparable period in 2025.

The following table reflects agency merger and acquisition activity for Q1 2026. All in all, there were five transactions publicly announced in New England—four in January and one in February. Of those, three occurred in Massachusetts (all in January), with one each in Connecticut (January) and New Hampshire (February).
